Young Rebels Tackle Hunger at HALO

1/13/2018 - Players, parents, siblings and coaches of the 4th grade Rebels team worked with one of the local Subway owners and teamed up on a Saturday to help tackle hunger for the homeless at Halo. Their visit began with a tour at Halo by one of it's directors. The tour consisted of stops in the food pantry, the laundry room, the restrooms and a couple bedrooms to show the athletes that there are a lot of people that need help in our community. The coaches and parents want their players to become leaders not only on the field but off the field as well and this was a great way to open their minds and let them see first hand how fortunate they are compared to others.
Shortly after the tour, the players and families assisted with setting up tables and dividing the Subway boxes that were packaged together for the kids to hand out to families. The players worked together by dividing up into teams and and forming an assembly line to hand them out to the families. This will be something that the team continues to do each year and will teach the kids that, while football is a fun, amazing sport, there is more to life than football. By working hard in the classroom, on the field and in the community the players will not only become better athletes, but better people. Football is family it is what being in the Rebel family is all about.
